GRAND RAPIDS — ArtPrize will host two free concerts downtown with Natasha Bedingfield, David Archuleta and other notables.
Staff today announced the 2010 ArtPrize Concert Series to be held in conjunction with the fall arts competition at Rosa Parks Circle.
The music is another way to enhance the ArtPrize experience, said ArtPrize Executive Director Bill Holsinger-Robinson. “Whether viewing art, learning through the speakers series or celebrating through live musical performances, all these experiences promote collisions among the public, artists and city spaces.”
Concert dates and performers include:
• Oct. 2, 7 p.m. — Natasha Bedingfield, with David Archuleta, Hot Chelle Rae.
Pop singer Natasha Bedingfield, whose hit singles include “Pocketful of Sunshine” and “Unwritten,” headlines a more recognizable pop lineup that includes Season 7 “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta and new pop/rock Nashville group Hot Chelle Rae with single “Bleed.”
Hanlon added that Bedingfield et al will have a more mass appeal for that second Saturday and perhaps draw more people downtown during the later portion of the 19-day exhibition and competition running Sept. 22 through Oct. 10.
“Natasha is a star. Her song ‘Unwritten’ was the top of the charts last year,” said Hanlon, who added that they’re looking to book a local choir to help provide supporting vocals for the song.
Citadel recently presented the free daylong and family-friendly country music festival “Thunder (94.5) Country Jam,” featuring headliner Little Big Town. It also is in charge of the annual free HOT-FM (105.3) New Year’s Eve Party. Both events were held at Rosa Parks Circle.
