The BMI Awards, named after US-based performing rights organisation Broadcast Music Inc, took place in London.

Pop Awards, which go to songs and their songwriters for most performances on US radio, were bestowed on Estelle for American Boy, Duffy for Mercy, KT Tunstall for Hold On, Adele for Chasing Pavements and Lady Gaga’s Just Dance, among others.

Natasha Bedingfield’s hit Pocket Full Of Sunshine, which she also co-wrote, earned the Robert S Musel Award for Song Of The Year. The double-platinum single has sold more than two million copies around the world.
